چکیده

Extended Markovian Process Algebra (EMPA) is a process algebra suitable for expressing functional and performance aspects of concurrent systems. It is equipped with an operational interleaving semantics, a functional semantics, a Markovian semantics and an operational net semantics. In this paper we apply an integrated approach based on EMPA for mod-eling and analyzing concurrent systems to the Dining Philosophers problem. The problem is rstly described by an EMPA term and then it is studied on the semantic models associated with the term.

Extended Differential Aggregations in Process Algebra for Performance and Biology

We study aggregations for ordinary differential equations induced by fluid semantics for Markovian process algebra which can capture the dynamics of performance models and chemical reaction networks. Whilst previous work has required perfect symmetry for exact aggregation, we present approximate fluid lumpability, which makes nearby processes perfectly symmetric after a perturbation of their pa...

Using Markovian Process Algebra to Specify Interactions in Queueing Systems

The advantages of using stochastic process algebra to specify performance models are well-documented. There remains, however, a reluctance in some quarters to use process algebras; this is particularly the case amongst queueing theorists. This paper demonstrates the use of a Markovian process algebra to represent a wide range of queueing models. Moreover, it shows that the most common interacti...

A Formal Approach to the Integration of Performance Aspects in the Modeling and Analysis of Concurrent Systems

A formal approach for modeling and analyzing concurrent systems is proposed which integrates performance characteristics in the early stages of the design process. The approach relies on both stochastically timed process algebras and stochastically timed Petri nets in order to exploit their complementary advantages. The approach is instantiated to the case of EMPA (Extended Markovian Process Al...

Phase-Type Approximations for Non-Markovian Systems

We introduce a novel stochastic process algebra, called PHASE, which directly supports phase-type distributions, useful for approximating the dynamics of non-Markovian HCI systems. In order to encourage the effective use of PHASE, we give a step by step account of how PHASE processes can be implemented in PRISM, one of the most powerful and popular probabilistic model checkers currently availab...

Functional Modelling and Performance Evaluation for Two Class Diffserv Router Using Stochastic Process Algebra

This paper describes the use of stochastic process algebra to model and to evaluate the performance of a two class DiffServ router. This specification is done by means a set of powerful operators of Extended Markovian Process Algebra (EMPA) language, and then studied from the functional and the performance point of view.
